How to Assign Custom Domain to Business’s Social Ordering

Setting up the social ordering to have a custom domain is pretty similar to setting up a domain to point to your SocialOwl license. This will cover what steps would need to be taken to set it up and explain some of the nuances of it.

You can set up either a domain or a subdomain to replace the normal URL for a business’s social ordering. Normally, the social ordering URL would look something like this:

https://socialappsnow.com/so/businessnamehere

If you owned/purchased yourdomain.com and set that up to replace the business’s social ordering URL it would look something like this:

https://yourdomain.com/so/businessnamehere
Or similarly, if you set up a subdomain on that same domain called cart then the business’s

social ordering URL would look something like this:

https://cart.yourdomain.com/so/businessnamehere

The important things to note about this, if you switch out a domain it’s going to replace the whole domain, so if a business already has some sort of website set up on their domain you’d want to make sure that you set it up as a subdomain. And the URL is still going to have the /so/ businessnamehere part.

Step 1: DNS Settings for the Domain/Subdomain Full Domain

Taking into account what was mentioned up above, if you’ll be setting up a full domain to work with the social ordering, then you’ll want to add in 2 different A records.

Add in one A record to point to 18.216.57.56 and then add in second A record to point www to 18.216.57.56

The only thing that might be different is if there is already a CNAME record for www then you don’t have to add in the A record for www. Just the one for the @ record.

Subdomain

If setting up a subdomain, you’ll only need to add in 1 A record. Taking the example from above, if you wanted to create the subdomain cart.yourdomain.com then you’d add in an A record and for the name type in cart and point that to 18.216.57.56

Step 2: Add in the Domain/Subdomain

For the next step, you’ll want to navigate to the business’s social ordering section and navigate to the “Configuration”. In there just above the first blue “Save” button you’ll see a checkbox that says “Use business domain”. If you check that off a text field will show up and that’s where you will put in the domain/subdomain.

It’s very important for this step that you only type in just the domain/subdomain and nothing else. So only type in yourdomain.com or cart.yourdomain.com or whatever domain/ subdomain it is that you are setting up. So no www or http or anything like that. Also make sure there aren’t any spaces at the beginning or end.

Once you’ve added that in, click the blue “Save” button.

Step 3: Notify Us

The last and very important step is to either send us an email at office@socialcommand.co.uk or when you are logged into your platform you can use the chat option in the bottom right corner. Just let us know that you added on a domain to your business’s social ordering and let us know the business name and the domain. At that point we’ll install an SSL on the website and then it should be able to start working. It’s very important to notify us because until we install the SSL it won’t work correctly.
